Deep Tech Subject Matter Expertise for Larger-Scale Due Diligence
Overview: The rapid advancement of Deep Tech, MedTech, and Green Tech challenges traditional Due Diligence processes. When evaluating complex innovations rooted in physics, chemistry, or materials science, standard audits may leave critical blind spots. Määrätieto Oy does not conduct entire Due Diligence analyses independently. Instead, the firm operates as a specialized Subject Matter Expert partner for lead consultants. Complex scientific concepts are deconstructed into a clear, commercial risk analysis that feeds directly into the client's broader DD report. This ensures the end-client (the investor) has verified, objective assurance as to whether the target company's technology is industrially scalable from a natural sciences perspective.
Expert module contents:
Scientific Foundation & Validity: Is the proposed solution scientifically feasible and sustainable within the laws of physics and chemistry?
Technology Readiness Level: Is the technology a conceptual laboratory experiment or an industrially replicable prototype?
Physical IPR Moat: Can the target's patent protection withstand material workarounds or minor chemical modifications by competitors?
Deep Tech Scalability & Capital Expenditure Risks: The industrialization of the innovation is analyzed purely through the lens of physics, chemistry, and material requirements:
Deep Tech Capital Intensity: Does scaling require exceptionally expensive, science-bound investments (e.g., ultra-high vacuum environments, cleanrooms, or customized bioreactors) that standard industrial automation cannot solve?
Material & Component Bottlenecks: Is the technology's Achilles' heel a reliance on rare earth metals, ultra-high purity raw materials (e.g., 99.9999% purity requirements), or a globally narrow pool of high-tech suppliers?
Regulatory Reality Check: Assessing whether the underlying physics and chemistry of the technology can actually meet the strict performance thresholds demanded by the target industry.

Independence and Disclosure: The assessment of potential affiliations is conducted in accordance with the ethical framework of ISO 20700:2017 Annex E, eliminating confirmation bias. The module is prepared solely as a natural science expert assessment and does not constitute independent investment recommendations, legal, or financial advice. A strict 12-month operational cooling-off period is observed between an expert auditing role and any potential future operational role within the target company.
